I wasn't sure if I would like this roomba but I'm happy with my purchase. I use it to clean a medium size living room/dining room. It's pretty stupid and seems to have favorite areas that it stays in but it eventually gets the room done. I turn it on when I'm about to go to bed then play hide and seek in the morning until I find it to recharge.

I purchased this on sale at one of the amazon affiliate sites. My intention being that it even picks up the dust off the hardwood floors it would be worth the convenience and I would just hit the difficult patches with the standup vacuum once in awhile. I have to admit that I was quite pleasantly surprised to see that it actually is a good vacuum, I am guessing that it must make up for what it lacks in power (assuming lack of power, because of size and battery, although I honestly can't tell that it is lacking power) by the fact that it does end up going over the same areas repeatedly as it travels around the room(s).
I do advise that you tuck your power cords away as this model does get stuck on them (I understand that some of the higher end models have a power cord detector). I do find myself quickly rearranging the furnishing and picking up prior to vacuuming which is actually a plus in order to allow the roomba to do the most. It is great at getting under the bed and other furniture that offers the clearance, it does an amazing job and with two cats is proving itself invaluable. I use it pretty much every day, I just alternate rooms for cleaning, and the virtual walls work great too.I just set it up in rooms I am not using, let it run, when done let it recharge and run it in another later on. Vacuum the whole house every two days (~1900 sq ft.)
I got this through an Amazon owned affiliate company and have used it five times now on various surfaces. I don't have any pets and there's just two people living in a fairly small house (1200 sq ft), so its more dusty that really dirty. The Roomba 440 does a great job on short pile carpet in the bedrooms and hall. I had vacuumed about five days early with a good canister vacuum, but the Roomba still picked up a ton of dust, lint and hair. It did an especially good job under the beds. I moved small furniture items out of the rooms and draped electric cords up out of the way, so the Roomba had no issues getting stuck. The living room and dining room have wood laminate with area rugs and that was more problematic. The Roomba would bump on the area rug hem (no tassels, just a thick sewn hem) and reacted as if it hit a wall. Eventually it would come at the right angle and find a way up on the rug. It did cause it to take longer than it should have to clean the room because of that though. It does a great job on tile and laminate, but again, area rugs are a bit of a problem for it.
Still, I really like this little appliance. I just smile at how good of a job it does...and I really wasn't expecting much from what I thought was a "toy". I understand from reading reviews that they can have a pretty short life span (about a year), but for what I paid that would still be worth it (and I would replace it!).
This is a great product. My husband got this for me and he did good. We have a dog that sheds quite a bit and it is so nice to place the Roomba in the den and let her go. "She's a hard working lady."
Product Description
The Roomba 440 Cordless Robot vacuums so you don't have to. Just press the clean button and Roomba does the rest. Its powerful vacuum and counter-rotating brushes reach deep into your carpet to remove dirt, dust and pet hair. Virtual walls tell it where to clean by restricting off-limit areas, and it automatically senses and avoids stairs and drop offs, so it cleans the whole floor, under and around furniture and along walls. Unit automatically adjusts to vacuum carpets and hard floors, and senses dirtier areas that need more thorough cleaning. Spot mode quickly cleans up spills and concentrated messes.
